To make soap, whether its cold process or hot process, you need lye (sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide). However, lye are controlled substance in Singapore and no individuals are allowed to import/purchase such controlled chemicals for personal/domestic use, making it impossible for soap makers in Singapore to make homemade soap and purchasing lye from online or overseas sources might land you in trouble with the law. However, fear not! Cos you can now purchase lye and make your own natural soap at our soap making workshop in Singapore!
At Singapore Soap, we have specially setup a room for soap makers to make enjoy the process of making your own DIY soap without the headache of procuring lye or the need to purchase a whole list of soap making equipment and ingredients to start!
Simply book our DIY soap making workshop which comes with all the necessary equipment to make your own DIY soap. Soap making materials like sodium hydroxide (for cold process soap bar) or potassium hydroxide (for liquid soap) and oils can also be purchased at our store! Do check with us in advance on the availability of ingredients you need before coming down. You can also bring your own materials at no extra charges.
- Rental rates are only $20 per 60 minutes block (per person) with no minimum blocks per rental.
- Important: Room booking should be made prior to coming down.

Electric blender may be provided at a cost of $2.00 per pax.

- Sodium Hydroxide (a.k.a NaOH) to make cold process soap are priced at ONLY $0.08/g.
- Potassium Hydroxide (a.k.a KOH) to make liquid soap are priced at ONLY $0.10/g.

Do I need to bring anything along to make my own soap?
Nope, just bring yourself 🙂 We have all the equipment and ingredients needed for you to make your own soap. You can purchase them when you come down. If you prefer, you can bring your own oil and colorants etc too.
Can I change my booking date?
Sure! Just let us know at least 24 hours in advance (Rooms are subjected to availability and first come first serve basis)
Are there any cancellation fee?

What are the ingredients for soap making?
The main ingredients you need for soap making are vegetable oils or fats and lye (also known as alkali).
Can I make soap at home?
You can make soap at home by using melt and pour soap bases, also known as glycerin soap. In Singapore, you can cannot make cold process or hot process soap at home using lye as lye is a controlled chemical.
Can soap be made without lye?
You need lye to make real soap. Without lye, you can’t make lye based soap. Having said that, you can use melt and pour soap bases which are ready made soap. Simply melt, pour into a mold and wait for it to harden. Soap is done!
Is making handmade soap easy?
Making handmade soap is easy and fun. With a good understanding of the saponification process, proper knowledge on safety and a good soap making recipe, you will be making your own handmade soap in no time.
How long does it take to make soap?
Making handmade soap generally takes anywhere from an hour or more depending on the soap technique utilized and your recipe. Making hot process soap is faster than cold processing while certain oils takes longer to saponify. There is also a curing period which will again depends on the choice of oils used and soap making technique.
How dangerous is lye?
Lye is a strong alkali. If not properly handled, it can cause burns or bodily damage.
Is handmade soap better than store bought cleanser?
Unlike store bought cleanser which are made from harsh synthetic chemicals like SLES, SLS, handmade soap are made from natural ingredients like vegetable oil, butter, botanical additives and more. It cleans gently, provides better skin conditioning and contains residual glycerin which are normally removed from store bought cleaners.
