Kokum Butter (100% Pure & Natural)
Kokum butter (also known as kokum oil, kokum fat or Garcinia indica) is derived from the seeds of a fruit-bearing tree called the kokum tree and said to improve the moisture content of almost every part of the body, including your skin, lips, feet, scalp, and hair.
Although many people are familiar with cocoa, coconut, and shea butters, kokum butter is a less common alternative that comes with its own set of unique attributes and benefits.
It contains up to 60-65% saturated fatty acid, making it solid at room temperature. Its triglyceride composition is uniform and consists of up to 80% of stearic-oleic-stearic (SOS) triglycerides.
Because its slip melting point is close to human body temperature (37°C), it tends to melt on skin contact.
Kokum butter is non-greasy and gets absorbed into the skin once it is applied. It is often used as a substitute for cocoa butter due to its triglyceride composition. Kokum butter has emollient properties and good oxidative stability, which can assist emulsion integrity.
With its relatively higher melt point, it melts slightly at skin temperatures, making it a potent emollient or moisturizing agent ideal for lipsticks and balms. It is also added in the making of bar soaps and skin lotions, lotion bars and lipsticks.
Although it can be used by itself, commercially prepared products often mix kokum butter with other kinds of plant oils or butters to create a more spreadable consistency.
